Abstract
In 2009 Lumin undertook some research on mentoring for women in the sport sector. As a result of this, the Women in Sport Advisory Group (WIS) agreed to establish a trial mentoring programme.
There were four primary objectives of the trial mentoring programme.
These have all been achieved.
• A range of mentoring relationships and styles have been explored, using sound systems, processes, implementation and monitoring.
These are easily replicated for future programmes.
• The programme participants have an increased understanding of and commitment to mentoring both as mentors and mentees.
• There are online resources developed and available to support
mentoring on an ongoing basis.
• The project has been reviewed and concluded that it is effective.
There are some recommendations for development should the programme be repeated.
The programme timeframe of six months was ambitious but pragmatic from the perspective of mentors and their preparedness to commit their time and expertise.
