Abstract

This fact sheet looks at walking in New Zealand — who walks, where to, and how the patterns have changed over time. Note that this travel survey captures walking on the road/footpath environment; off-road activities such as tramping and walking around the farm or shopping centre are not included in these estimates. Neither is walking less than 100m, unless it involves crossing a road. This fact sheet uses data from 51,690 people in 20,452 households, collected between July 2003 and June 2012, focussing on July 2009 – June 2012.

Keywords: walking, patterns, footpath, urban,
